So I've Been Thinking...
I want to start using Tumblr more. Like a second Twitter. Anyway, I’m working on overhauling my blog. First off, the title. I’m thinking about knocking off, “The Girl With” and make it, “The Purple Pen.” Simple and a little more sophisticated. Thoughts? Any would be appreciated!

Lipstick and Revelations
The best Sephora I’ve ever shopped at was in Nice, France.
Nearing the end of our senior class trip to Europe last spring, my friend Gina and I headed straight toward Avenue Jean Médecin during one of the rare breaks in our jam-packed schedule. Located in the heart of Nice, The Avenue, as it is known by residents, houses the main shops of the city. I was Holly Golightly, staring longingly into...

Renovation: New Blog Site!
While I love Tumblr, it’s definitely not the place to house a professional blog. So now I’m on WordPress.
I’m still working on the page, but bear with me. It will be a cool, classic blog in no time.
Make sure to keep up with The Girl with the Purple Pen!

Shutter, Aperture and ISO, Oh My!
After complaining for months that I wanted to learn more about photography, I dusted off my Cannon Rebel T3 Thursday night and went to my first photography class with my friend Lauren.
Photography has always been a hobby of mine, but I know that in order to be the best journalist possible, I have to be well rounded (thanks, Cherubs!).
For the next eight weeks, I will be learning everything...

A DIY Day To Remember
Fast forwarding through calculus, college applications and newsmagazine pressure, I’m finally a second semester senior. Though, I don’t have to wait the five months until graduation to get more experience in fashion or journalism.
I’ve learned in the past few weeks that connections are everywhere, even in the most unlikely of places. I met Olivia Smalley while she teased my...

Biggest problem of the night:
I don’t know what to wear tomorrow.
I can’t believe I’m starting my senior year of high school tomorrow. Where did the last three years go?
My biggest problem should actually be that the school messed up my schedule, but as long as I look good, I know I’ll feel good.
Look at me all optimistic. Hopefully it sticks.

Just another lazy, rainy day
The last three weeks have been depressing. Not only am I still suffering from post-cherubs syndrome, but also I’ve been surrounded by a bleak, rainy sky.
The weather has definitely taken a toll on my mood, which is reflected through my clothes. I’ve been sluggishly hanging out at home in tank tops and exercise shorts. When I finally decide to leave the house, I find that I’m...

Redesign
I figured it was time for a change. Not only in my blog, but in myself.
I left Northwestern feeling motivated, but I soon realized that this motivation was toward journalism, not anything else school related.
The past week I’ve been studying for the SATs and doing summer reading assignments. I don’t want to sit in a bland, freezing room figuring out the area of a random piece of a...

The Cutting Class: Exquisite Details for Givenchy... →
I’m speechless. These gowns are just breathtaking. Such detail! But, quite honestly, I expect nothing less from the incredibly talented Riccardo Tisci.

Givenchy, Couture, AW11.
The sheer time scales for developing ideas for Couture vs Ready to Wear garments is vastly different. Once a pattern has been finalised from toiles a finished salesman sample can be made...
Wanted: Blogger
I just found out that I’m going to be blogging for a website.
It’s not a paying job, but I couldn’t care less. I’m thrilled to get more experience and put my name out there.
I keep joking around that this is a new era of Alyssa Fisher. But it’s oh so true.
I have a feeling that this is going to be an amazing year.

New Beginnings
And my year starts…now.
I returned home from cherubs Friday night, to which the rest of the weekend I was a delirious mess. Exhaustion and depression took over. All I could do was lay in bed and catch up on my guilty pleasures.
It made me feel a little better that I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. All my cherub friends have been posting on Facebook nonstop about how much they...

Magazine Maniac
Wednesday wasn’t neccessarily a life changing experience, but it did confirm that I definitely want to write for a magazine.
I emailed this to my newspaper adviser, who insisted that I already write for two magazines - Gulfstream Media’s publications and The Lariat.
But he knows what I mean.
It may have just been because there was a room full of teenagers staring at them with...

Making Connections
Last week was so intense. I sat at the computer for what seemed like 24/7 and wrote a trend story - about a topic that didn’t end up being a trend.
It was so frustrating.
But I’m feeling more positive about this week. Actually, I know it’s going to be amazing. I’m finishing up my trend/now feature story and then I will no longer have to worry about it. But that’s...

Check It Out
Check out The Lariat! First of all, it’s just amazing. Second of all, a less fashion-y version of my blog was just posted. Not much will be posted this summer, but keep it in mind because during the school year, our NSPA Pacemaker-winning website will keep you updated on the latest of everything.

Yes, I am a Journalism Nerd
I’m back online! After a week of frantically trying to meet 20 minute deadlines, I’m finally using the computer for my own personal enjoyment.
For those of you who don’t know, I’m at Northwestern University’s National High School Institute journalim summer intensive. Also known as Medill Cherubs. I’m living in a dorm with 83 other people from 23 states, plus...

Treasure Hunt
Yesterday I went on a treasure hunt. I stormed into American Thrift with the mindset of a fashion pirate, ready to uncover something interestingly and unconventionally beautiful.
You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
I had been begging my friends to go thrifting with me for some time now, and since I’m leaving on Sunday (!), they made sure it...
